The world of social media continues to evolve, and sometimes it can be confusing and upsetting.
We have learned that users of some social media platforms, such as Snapchat, have created accounts that appear to be “official” accounts belonging to Robbinsdale Area Schools and our various graduating classes. Accounts like these can spread false information, post inappropriate content, cause disruptions, and upset both students and their families.
It’s important for you to know that Robbinsdale Area Schools does not use Snapchat or TikTok. At this time our only official social media accounts are:
If you have concerns about something you may have seen on social media regarding your school, please double-check our official accounts, your email, or your school’s website. The district will never communicate or post using social media accounts other than those listed above.
Troubling messages on any platform should be reported via the Say Something anonymous reporting system.
A further word about social media. The world of social media is vast. Students have First Amendment rights, and school districts can’t monitor what everyone posts in their free time, away from school, using a personal device.
We rely on parents and guardians to have frank discussions about proper social media use and digital footprints with their students, and to set clear boundaries regarding social media behavior.
